The purpose of product marketing is to align the company's value and capabilities with market and customer needs. It is responsible for providing a clear explanation of how and why the company and its products are valuable, and for driving expansion by demonstrating this value. Good product marketing influences every stage of the customer journey, from awareness and consideration to evaluation and onboarding.
To get there, product marketing teams need to develop:
Good product marketing can help a company achieve its goals by improving the effectiveness of the marketing team with a thorough understanding of the product, increasing the efficiency of the commercial teams through targeted content and right-fit sales strategies, and providing buyers and users with relevant content to advance in their journey. Finally, product marketing helps the product team respond more quickly to market, segment, analyst, and competitor news.
I love Emma Stratton's work on punchy messaging. Great messaging and positioning starts with VBF.
